Why don’t we post (blog) so often? |Melissa S Photography

The reasoning is simple….we photograph a lot of kids! As a parent myself, I don’t want to share images that may be used for something, or by someone else.

It is up to the parents to share their children’s images, not me.  Out Tween sessions are very popular because a lot of these girls have very low self esteem, or feel self conscious about how they look. If a photo I posted here were to be reused to me make her feel even worse…I don’t know how I would cope with that. Her images are for her and her family. We do share promotional images and our dance and sports teams….

Ok rant over…

Cheers!

Tween Photo Sessions | Melissa S Photography

Introducing our new Teen/Tween Sessions!!

The most busy, tween years are the most un-photographed time in a our children’s lives! I know- I have no photos of me except those silly school photos. Plus I have realized that I have hardly photos of my now 13 year old daughter. So that’s how this was started….I want to help girls (and boys) be comfortable with who they are before they get into high school.  These photos help boost their self image, their self worth. Image how that would have helped you in middle school?

Julia is one of first models this month for these new sessions….I just love her smile!!

Tween Models Wanted | Melissa S Photography

“DID I NOT EXIST AS A TWEEN?”
I think to myself as I flip the plastic pages of my parents’ family photo album. One of the few photos that exists of me as a preteen is a traditional school photo. You know the one, that head and shoulders pose with the cheesy grin. My teeth are slightly too big for my face and my hair isn’t combed. Ah, sweet innocence.

Babies are so cute, new and chubby. Toddlers have those big, bright eyes and lets face it, they just do the darnedest thing. But those tween ages are often forgotten. At ages 10-13 kids aren’t children anymore but aren’t quite teens. With such animated personalities, it’s hard to believe that this is the most forgotten age when it comes to photos. Tweens change just as rapidly as a preschooler. Their voice, mannerisms, personality and their faces will become so different in just 3 quick years. These years are the last stage of childhood. Not much will change in terms of how they look as teenagers into adulthood.

I’m making it my personal mission to capture those lost preteen years. The goal is to help tweens look and feel beautiful and have unshakable confidence in themselves when they hit junior high.

IN COMES THE “WHO I AM.” PROJECT
We are starting the “Who I am” photography project to fill in the forgotten photo years while enriching the lives of pre-teens. The main goal is to make pre-teens look and feel beautiful and be confident in who they are. Why am I doing this? I have a 12 year old daughter…and I want to make sure she feels amazing about herself everyday for the rest of her life!

WHY “WHO I AM”?
We want to capture the the personality of these tweens and record the last stage of their childhood before they become young ladies. We want them to realize their true beauty so that they are confident in themselves before they hit Junior High. Just imagine the impact a single beautiful image can do for your tweens self-image. (Imagine the impact that single beautiful image could have done for you when you were that age.To be able to look at a photos and not see too fat, too skinny, too many freckles, too short of hair, but to just see yourself as beautiful.)

During this stage in your child’s life they are testing and building their self-esteem. Take a look at their Facebook pages and Instagram, the selfies and friend group photos are plastered on their walls. They are searching for an identity and want to show the world their personalities! You will see silly photos of your child with their friends still acting as a child but also their “model look” selfies, establishing themselves with their friends as confident in their skin and “grown up”. This is healthy for self esteem and much needed at this stage in your child’s life.

During a session we will cover both sides of your child to show a well-rounded idea of who they are at this time in their life. They will play a major role in clothing, prop and location choices for their session to reveal every aspect of their personalities.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for female models for our photography project, ages 9-14. We will ask the model and their parents a few questions, then combine the text and photographs to create one impactful piece of art.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE OR NOMINATE A FRIEND:
Please email me melissa.schumacher@cogeco.ca if you are interested in having your child participate in this project, or if you would like to nominate a friend or family member of yours that you think would be perfect for this. Please nominate people you think would enjoy the boutique experience we provide.

COMPLIMENTARY SESSION
The in-studio session itself is complimentary. All teens will receive social medial ready files and all parents will receive digital copies of those images, with a print release.
